Starting WoW
Every week, Starting WoW brings you the premier short-form informational and humor podcast all about World of Warcraft.
Season 1 was based around kicking new players of WoW into shape, and Season 2 was all about the casual players.

Beginnings

The idea for Starting WoW first came about when Cian was on a french exchange. World of Warcraft was always something which he wanted to try, but never really got an excuse to. In France, it seemed that everybody played, so he used this excuse to start up the podcast.

How Cian got into World of Warcraft

At the french school Cian was doing his exchange in, everybody was playing WoW. Cian first tried to fight this, and felt like an utter loner reading while everybody else was busy ganking each other. Soon, he gave in, and now can be found playing WoW and recording shows based on his experiances.

Segments

One thing Starting WoW has become known for are it’s segments on everything from choosing a good class for your play style to deciding what type of food to feed your pet.

Tongue in Cheek

Starting WoW never takes itself seriously. Come on, It’s a show about playing a computer game. Episodes which take themselves seriously should be considered mistakes.

Lingo

There have been many reoccurring sections in SWoW over the seasons. These include Lingo, Stopping WoW and the popular Survival section.

Holiday Shows

After every season, SWoW takes an official break. Weekly Holiday Shows replace the normal schedule, filled with banter, humor and fun.

On the 6th of April 2008, Starting WoW began with Season 1, Episode 1. It answered some very basic questions: "What is a patch?", "What is a plugin" and introduced some segments which would become well loved sections of Starting WoW.

While this episode gave out the call to submit your own content, this suggestion didn't catch on until later in the series, which left Cian with a lot of script writing work to do.
Format
Starting WoW is an almost totally script driven show. Over three hours are spent every week putting the show together, sometimes more.

A script contains fully written out segments, bullet points and sometimes just one or two words which remind the host what to say.
Season 2, Episode 1 was posted on the 31st of August 2008. Season two proved to be much more tongue-in-cheek, with segments on how to give up WoW, much more listener created material and the launch of the Starting WoW Social Network.
