DeLorean making a comeback

The DeLorean DMC-12, one of the most iconic cars in Hollywood history (”When this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you’re gonna see some serious…”) and unfortunate real-life poor performer, is being manufactured once again.

Auto news blog Jalopnik.com recently toured the DeLorean Motor Company’s Texas factory, which is producing the new cars.
The “2.0″ version of the DeLorean DMC-12 appears to be the same well-known vehicle on the outside, built from “80 percent originally manufactured parts and 20 percent upgraded parts” from the original design, Jalopnik.com reports. But the interior of the car is receiving a super-sized upgrade that rivals that hover conversion seen in Back To the Future II.
While the 80s DeLorean sported a stereo tape deck, the 2008 version’s amenities are positively posh, including:
- An Alpine IVA system with a 7″ display
- Eclipse speakers
- JL Audio subwoofer
- Genesis P-5 Amplifier
- GPS navigation system
- Satellite radio
- iPod adapter
- A “backup camera” for driving in reverse
- Bluetooth cell phone interface

If the pix in this post aren’t enough for you, feast your peepers on Jalopnik’s amazing photo gallery for more images. No word on a Flux Capacitor upgrade for these 2008 cars yet. We’ll keep you posted, if only to make a “1.21 jigowatts” joke down the road.
